The
Impulse to Resist Change
There are two types of change: 1) self-initiated, meaning you choose; and, 2) imposed, where someone else chooses and you are responsible for the implementation. We tend to resist change more frequently that is imposed. There are five key reasons why people within organizations resist change:
There are a number of emotions that people experience when faced with change, especially if it is imposed. Usually those initial emotions are negative, not necessarily bad, but negative enough to drain away one's energy. A belief is only functional and productive when it helps you become ready, willing, and able to change.
